I am doing a project for my history class and I saw your article and I'm very interested to know more about lighthouses. :) Can you recommend me other references I can use to know more about it? Especially during the Spanish Period. I have been assigned to write an article on Faro de Punta Malabrigo in Lobo, Batangas by Lighthouse Digest, an international publication based in Wells, Maine. May I ask your permission to put this paragraph in my article:

Manuel Del Castillo stated in his essay entitled “Lonely Sentinels of the Sea: The Spanish Colonial Lighthouses in the Philippines” that starting 1857, the Spanish Colonial Government constructed roughly 70 lighthouses all over the Philippines. Of these, only 22 are of major construction works. Malabrigo’s tower, pavilion and surrounding veranda were built of masonry. Decorative metal grills surround the fence, balconies and windows. Corrugated iron sheets cover the roof. Del Castillo profoundly shares, “Even with time and the elements acting against them, the beauty that the Spanish engineers erected on our soil cannot be erased. It is time that we, the inheritors of this patrimony should do what we can to ensure its survival for the next 100 years. For these lights not only lit the souls and imaginations of those who chanced upon them; they also guided a nation to progress.”

Thank you very much! I'm looking forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
Karisma Kasilag-SisonKarisma Kasilaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13747717775016963464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23700266.post-1146884638169414072006-05-06T11:03:00.000+08:002006-05-06T11:03:00.000+08:00Hi...I've injoyed reading your reports very much a...Hi...
I've injoyed reading your reports very much and your photo's are great!
I'm Larry, an avid collector of lighthouse photography and scale replica's. My wife and I are visiting the Philippines May 8th thru May 25th 2006. Can you post some mapping, addresses, or accurate location discriptions of lighthouses outside of Manila or Davao? I'd love to visit some of them and get some new pictures and historical docs. Thanks, keep up the good work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
